week 26 winners

Here are the answers @twilightladies1 gave to my judgey questions.

1. What is the best piece of writing advice you’ve been given?
Keep writing. If you're struggling, keep going. It's always easy to go back and edit

 2. The first and last books you fell in love with?
The first one was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I had to read that in school when I was younger and I just fell in love with it. I've read it so many times now.
The last one was Sleepers by Lorenzo Carcaterra. A colleague recommended this to me to read on a flight and I couldn't put it down. Based on a true story about friendship  between four boys.

3. What are you listening to right now?
I have the radio on in the background why hubby shouts at his PS3

4. There's a rubber stamp mark on your hand. What does it say?
"Remember to smile."

5. Suppose you could travel to any place in time and history. When and where are you going?
You'd find me somewhere in the Georgian Era. It's a time that I'm fascinated by, yet don't know enough about.

@moonlit__girl -
So good but heartbreaking at the same time! A reminder of how much summer romances can hurt.

@sandyquill - This is great and made me smile! I loved this - very cute! Shows that not all summer romances can end in heartbreak - if you know that its just for the summer.

@sulliedsoles - I love the use of both prompts - the start of summer and her crush looking at her. This took me back to my first summer “love” and I had butterflies reading it. Loved it, and intrigued for more! I want to know how her summer goes!

@sri_ffn - So much said in such little words! I loved it, and I’m so intrigued for more!

@everydaybella89 - I loved this! You expect relationships to fail but then its always nice when you see them wanting to make a go and work at it!

@believeitornott - My heart breaks for these two. They seem to have so much against them. The romantic in me is left hoping they can get past their obstacles.

@bigblueboat - I loved this - you feel very hopeful for this couple!

@MrsRobCullen - So heartbreaking! You feel for both of them, knowing some things just aren’t meant to be.

@sparklymeg - Love! Nice to see both of them wanting to continue their summer romance!

@TinsleyWarren - I loved this! The first time I read it I had a smile on my face and I kept coming back to it - great flash! The idea of a summer love continuing and becoming their future is great and I thought this was a great take on the prompt.

@PinkCookie - Oh god this made me laugh! I remember being young, trying to impress some guy and then something goes so wrong and it feels like the worst thing ever! Captured perfectly - I loved it!

@LisbethTejada - This was beautiful. So much conveyed in such little words - loved it!

@Mylisssa - Ouch, this one hurt! I feel so sorry for her falling victim to school politics. Fab take on the prompt!

@Shneezles - I adore this one, it’s just beautiful!

@hummingbirdFF - A guy with a crush is always adorable and it put such a smile on my face. I liked how you used the prompt to write his view instead of hers - very unique!

@LouiseClark75 - This is all  things summer and romance - I loved it!

@GeekChic12FF - My heart was breaking for her at the start! I’m glad he came to his senses. Loved this!!

@ChocoMG2112 - This was great - a unique take on the prompt which I loved!

@femme_mal - Showing that making your own memories count, not using the movies and books. Loved it!

@mslizabeth - I love! Everyone has that small bit of self-doubt in there, it was great to see it being used in this prompt!

First Place - @TinsleyWarren

Second Place - @sulliedsoles

Honourable Mention - @hummingbirdFF

...

Congratulations @TinsleyWarren!

Thank you to @twilightladies1 for judging, and to everyone who participated.

See you next week!

week 25 winners

Here's @sparklymeg's answers to the judgey questions.

1.What is the best piece of writing advice you’ve been given?
Write what you know, and sometimes all you need is one word to get you started. I love flashfics for this reason.

 2. The first and last books you fell in love with?
The first has to be the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis. Just magical. The last is one called Before I go to Sleep by S.J Watson. Absolutely gripping and unputdownable - the author attended a creative writing class and this debut best seller was the result - anyone can do it!

3. What are you listening to right now?
I'm listening to Biffy Clyro's "Opposites" Album - where I got this weeks prompt. I'm kinda late to the party with these guys, but they are rocking my world right now

4. There's a rubber stamp mark on your hand. What does it say?
"Destination: Anywhere"

5. Suppose you could travel to any place in time and history. When and where are you going?
I'd go back to the 60's . great music, great fashion, great love!

This was really difficult - all such amazing entries. I am so proud of the immense talent there is within our little community! They were all absolutely fantastic and it was a difficult decision. It was really interesting to see such different interpretations of the prompt. In the end I went with the ones I kept coming back to and that made my heart beat fast!! Well done everyone!

@sandyqill - Inside you, not just beside you - so very true. I wonder how many out there settle for someone beside them?

@Shneezles - And I didn't see THAT coming :( it's too late for them.

@chocaholic - She is so empty that all she has to give him are skin cells? What happened to make her this way? I want more of this!

@everydaybella89 - This was so sad, all he remembered was her - beautiful imagery - and then a shred of hope at the end - he woke to her eyes! My heart soared!

@AnnaLund2011 - This one brought the tears. Heartbreaking.

@lellabeth - Sniff. This one is heartbreakingly beautiful, and excellent use of the imagery in the prompt.

@KekahJ - "He didn't buy it, and now he's gone." She is numb, a shell of a person - so really, did HE deserve better? I need more of this!

@GeekChic12FF - *sobs* who is the shadow? I hope she lets go, he will be waiting for her. I need more of this!!!

@TiramiSue84 - Such conviction in his belief that she deserves better. Really beautiful and sad words.

@bebginja - You go girl!  This was sad, and it sucked for her, but a lipstick note? Oh yeah.

@Twilightladies1 - Absolutely beautiful. Despair, frantic, then the hope. He couldn't risk it! I was giddy. I could feel it all. I'm sobbing.

@CrackedFic - Poor little guy. Loved the poetry. Why did he have to do it without help? I need more of this!

@hummingbirdFF - I have shivers. Is he dead or did he leave? So beautifully sad, yet there's a victory there in her realisation. She thinks she's been trying to move on, yet his belongings still in her room tell another story. Even at 3a.m. she knows what she needs to do to start moving on.

@bigblueboat & @TiramiSue84 - Poor guy :( I could feel his despair, see him throwing back the Scotch. His acceptance is clear, yet heartbreaking.

@ChocoMG2112 -
Wow! This was really weird and different! Who is The Man? Ghost? Vampire? Demon? I want more of this!

@PinkCookie - Nice to see a different take on what goes through someones head when their partner is dying.

@boomboom_jones - Heartbreaking! Anger, despair, that feeling of the injustice of it all, like how dare he? "You sliced me in half. I can't breathe." So sad.

@bigblueboat - This one broke my heart. Like really, really. Shattered. There was no hope here. They already lost their child, how will he/she cope with losing their partner too?.

@hummingbirdFF - Wow! I liked that little twist! The idea of 2 different sides of one person. How many of us put on a facade like this? Really thought provoking.

@femme_mal - Leaving the house in a perfect state. Labels facing outward? This makes me think of OCD and an abusive relationship. She is running, getting away?? I need to know more.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS: @AnnaLund2011, @hummingbirdFF

SECOND PLACE: @bigblueboat

FIRST PLACE: @Twilightladies1

....

Congratulations @Twilightladies1!

Thank you to @sparklymeg for judging, and to everyone who participated.

See you next week.

(For those playing on their phones, the song is Biffy Clyro's Opposite.)

1. What is the best piece of writing advice you’ve been given?
Write what you know, and write what you want to read. Also, become your characters.

2. The first and last books you fell in love with?
First: Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (names my daughter for Scarlett!)Last: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (I didn't get into Austen until I was older)

3. What are you listening to right now?
That's almost impossible to answer. My husband is a music publisher, so he has all kinds of bands that he asks me to listen to. BUT, I'll have to go with...

Roniit "Lost at Sea"
(Remember to buy this music from the artists. Please don't download illegally or use Spotify or Pandora unless you pay for them.)

4. There's a rubber stamp mark on your hand. What does it say?
Super MVF Optimistic Bitch ;P

5. Suppose you could travel to any place in time and history. When and where are you going?
I'm going with 1947 New York City. I want to experience the 40s instead of just write about them.

That was way too damn hard...

@LouiseClark75 -- Did she cheat? Such a cliffie! Nooo!

@AnnaLund2011 -- "She roared, and the Twenties roared back." SO awesome!

@TinsleyWarren -- oooh. This could be it's own story. I wonder what will happen?

@sparklymeg -- Amazing way to bring the prompts together!

@shadesofpurple4 -- I love when women are the power-players. Excellent!!!

@PinkCookie -- Amelia Earhart! Awesome way to add her in! Didn't see that coming!

@Shneezles -- Wow... I love the perceptive. Very interesting to read. Are the girls lovers?

@twilightladies1 -- It's emotionally torn, yet so peaceful at the end. Loves this a lot!

@sandyquill -- "I'd wager you're not a bathtub gin kind of girl.."
Love how this represents the 20's. Excellent!

@lellabeth -- "Your lips taste like redemption." Such a powerful way to put it! Great!

@bigblueboat -- so eloquent. Beautiful!

@KekahJ "...she makes him complete." I feel that this is what true love is. Perfect representation. You'd do Fitzgerald proud!

@magtwi78 -- I love the "she knows she's better than this..." Kind of takes a spin on the quote. Great idea!

@hummingbirdFF -- GIRL POWER! Wonderful poem!

@ChocoMG2122 -- Excellente utilisation du Français!

@bebeginja -- emotional, year-jerking! So wonderful.

@PinkCookie -- I think this was a great way to use the prompt, and was cracking up over the seltzer water!

@Aleeab4u -- love the sisters names and the way they act together. Wonderfully written!

@adriftinmyhead -- ooooh. Love the foreboding mention of the Titanic! Different decade, but TOTALLY great way to throw it in! I felt like I was there with them.

This was a terribly hard decision. Everyone used my prompts wonderfully.

In the end, I chose:

Honorable Mention: @AnnaLund2011, @Aleeab4u

2nd place: @sandyquill

1st place: @sparklymeg

Good work! That was really tough. You all rocked my socks! Wonderfully done!

Quinn

week 24 fanficflashfic

This week's judge, @QuinnSkylark, has selected two prompts for this week's fanficflashfic.

Here they are:

“I fell in love with her courage, her sincerity, and her flaming self respect. And it's these things I'd believe in, even if the whole world indulged in wild suspicions that she wasn't all she should be. I love her and it is the beginning of everything.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald

week 23 winners

Hello, my lovelies. My sincerest apologies for the delay on this - my husband's grandfather passed away, and I have also been away for uni and hectic life is hectic. This week should see a return to usual programming. Shell x

Here's @sandyquill's answers to my judgey questions ...

1. What is the best piece of writing advice you’ve been given?
- Infuse each scene with information from the senses so that the reader is brought entirely into the moment, to experience what you experience.

 2. The first and last books you fell in love with?
- First: The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum
- Last: Timeline by Michael Crichton

3. What are you listening to right now?
The air conditioner. Yep.

4. There's a rubber stamp mark on your hand. What does it say?

- ΙΧΘΥΣ

5. Suppose you could travel to any place in time and history. When and where are you going?
- I'd be reluctant to go, to be honest. History is fraught with misinformation and I wonder if I'd want my illusions destroyed, you know? But if it were laid upon me to go, I'd like to visit Ancient Rome in the early years of Octavian, Emperor Augustus.  OR 1961 AD, Long Beach, California. I'd like to hang out with my folks. :)

Wow. First, thanks to everyone who wrote this week. I know it was the 4th of July in the States and I neglected utterly to make this a patriotic theme but the holiday totally slipped my mind. All I was thinking was "1969" when I went looking for pictures.

Y'all wow'd me. Thank you so much.

First place was SO HARD to choose. So, so hard.

Really.

But.

I am awarding it to @QuinnSkylark - ODE TO THE '60's.  This was what I was thinking when I picked the images and it's like you read my mind.
Be afraid. ;-)

You awake before the dawn
A firefight won’t let you sleep
As bullets zip past your ears
When your buddy falls
There is little you can do
And no emotion is found anymore
It has been bled from you
Because war is a leech
Sucking you dry
Perhaps next year you’ll be home
Maybe the next 4th of July you’ll see the fireworks
Instead of the burning of napalm

At the same time
In another world
You dance to the beat of your own drum
Life is so different for you
But nonetheless important
The ideals which you battle for today
Is the change you wish to see
The difference you will be in this place
Your fight is gallant
Your cause is just
Equality and rights
And speaking for those without a voice
Possibly the next Independence Day
Will mean independence for all

Between you both
Your commonplace is this
Rock ‘n’ Roll
Change
Adventure
Life
Ingrained within is the hope for a new world order
A chance for the generations to come
Optimism for something new
Freedom

And we thank you

And Tied for Second are:

@AnnaLund2011:  Made me melancholy. Beautifully done.

@Aleeab4u: Love the context you've given for the black and white picture.

@adriftinmyhead:  This was eerie because if I were writing for this prompt? This would have been a lot like what I probably would have done. Truth.

Special Humor Mention to @ChocoMG2112:  Oooh, Ghosts! Very clever! :)  Did NOT expect that at all.  :)

...

Congratulations @QuinnSkylark.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and to @sandyquill for judging.

See you all next week!
